All eyes on Footes Lane
THE focus will be on the track at Footes Lane tomorrow with all the action live streamed here on ActiveGsy.com.
A busy Guernsey Athletics programme includes Abi Galpin, fresh from breaking the island’s decade-old 100m record, chasing a Commonwealth Games standard in the 200m.
Her best, set in June, is just 0.04sec short of the Games B standard. Galpin will race at 7.15pm in a fast field that includes Josh Duke, who ran 22.28 in May, to help her in that aim.
With 20 entries, the rarely run 3000m has been split into two races.
The first at around 6.35pm includes Mel Nicolle, Paul Hewitt, Sam Goddard and Mike Way, all competing just days after finishing the gruelling All Terrain Challenge.
In the feature 3000m, Will Bodkin, Alex Rowe and James Priest will be chasing the top positions with one eye on the 9min barrier.
Bodkin set his best, 8:56.06, back in 2014, while Rowe’s 9:24.10 dates from 2018.
Battles can be expected through the field, with Toby Mann and Ben Foote resuming a close-run rivalry seen all season.
In the last event of the evening, Island Games 100m hurdles champion Rhiannon Dowinton will be racing over the barriers hoping to crack 15sec for the first time.
That will be preceded by the 800m, where U17 Kate Bain will be hoping for some quality race preparation before she travels to both the Southerns and Hampshire Championships next month.
At the front of the race, English Schools competitor Gian-Luca Robilliard has already clocked an impressive 1:56 this season, knocking more than 2.5sec off his best from last year.
There are exciting junior races in store over the sprint hurdles, 200m and 600m, with visiting Birmingham U13 athlete Daniel Wood taking part in the last two.
ActiveGsy will host all the action live from 6.15pm.
