Run the runway for CI Air Search

A rare chance to run the runway is on offer in September.

The annual 5k fun run will be raising money for Channel Islands Air Search and registrations are now open.

Anyone aged 16 and up can take part.

CIAS needs £225,000 annually for its operating costs.

David Hugo, president of The Guernsey Friends of Air Search, said: ‘The Friends are looking forward to welcoming Runway Runners old and new to take part in this unique, enjoyable experience.

‘It is important that we support such a vital local charity which could potentially be called upon by anyone in the Channel Islands. We would like to thank Guernsey Airport, Guernsey Civil Protection, and the Guernsey Aero Club for their support in making the run a reality. We would like to give a special thanks to BDO Guernsey for making this event possible. We’re immensely grateful for corporate sponsorship and the Runway Run would not be able to go ahead without it.’

Stuart Phillips, executive director at BDO, said: ‘This is our second year working with CI Air Search to put on this truly unique opportunity to take to Guernsey Airport on foot, replacing jet power with the pitter-patter of trainers hitting the asphalt after the sun has gone down.

‘Last year, over 360 runners took part, raising nearly £10,000 for CI Air Search which was a great achievement and one we’re really wanting to top this year.’

The event takes place on Saturday 24 September.

Entry costs £25 per person, which includes a special edition t-shirt to be worn on the night.

Runners are also encouraged to raise sponsorship, using SportsGiving.

To register go to https://race-nation.co.uk/register/channel-islands-air-search-runway-run/channel-islands-air-search-runway-run-2022.

As official photographic identification will be required on the night, participants should register with the name on their ID.

Updates will be posted on the dedicated Air Search Runway Run Facebook page.
