Triathlon’s medal hopes in individual and relay events at 2023 Games
Guernsey Triathlon has announced a strong squad that will be fighting for medals at next year’s Natwest Island Games.
As well as Olympic distance events at Rocquaine for men and women, for the first time a relay will be held based around the Town seafront.
That will see two male and one female athlete form a team in an event that will close out the Games.
The six strong men’s squad are Josh Lewis, James Travers, Thierry Le Cheminet, Dave Mosley, Chris Norman and Ove Svejstrup.
Four women will compete: Megan Chapple, Chloe Truffitt, Amy Critchlow, Emily Squire.
Three reserves have also been chosen: James Tipper, Mat Dorian and Sammy McNaught.
‘We’ve got really strong teams, both male and female,’ said Selection Team Committee Lead Mark Naftel.
‘I’m pleased to see that Thierry, who has come through the club from racing as a youngster at school, through junior racing and now qualifies as a senior in his own right, continues to improve and is pushing the other top seniors times.
‘We’ve strong medal hopes in both genders in the standard distance event at Rocquaine, and with the new team relays at the end of the week on the Town Seafront.’
Team Manager Alan Rowe said: ‘Just getting selected into the Guernsey triathlon team is a massive achievement for the individuals, such is the current strength of triathlon in Guernsey. With this squad, we will have many athletes showing themselves at the front of the race in their home Games, which will give them an extra buzz on the day. With team medals to fight for, we can look forward to solid backup from the rest of the team, urged on by the spectators down in Rocquaine that will push them all to deliver their best on the day. And then we get to do it all again as a team relay in the heart of town. I can’t wait for it, and doing my part to help them realise their potential will be a pleasure.’
The team will be supported by Eric Sturdza Investments, who have backed the triathlon Island Games team since 2015. They will be joined in 2023 by DLM Architects.
