Search on for new outdoor and adventure sports officer
Adventure sports like kayaking and wild swimming in and around La Vallette and Havelet Bay will be the focus for the island’s first outdoor and adventure sports development officer.
The Guernsey Sports Commission has launched a search to recruit someone for the post.
‘We are really excited to be able to offer this development officer role which will focus on shore and sea-based adventure sports in and around La Vallette and Havelet Bay,’ said Steve Sharman, the commission’s relationship director.
‘The island’s natural environment lends itself perfectly to such sporting activities and we will be looking for the successful candidate to further develop opportunities such as kayaking, paddle boarding, wild swimming and many other sea-based activities. The development of new community facilities at La Valette lend themselves perfectly to the creation of this role.’
The full-time post is being jointly funded by the Sports Commission and a private benefactor.
The development officer will be tasked with promoting and organising outdoor and adventure sports activities for the whole community.
‘We already have plenty of interest from schools in wanting to access the opportunities this development officer will be able to offer but we are looking to increase participation for all ages as we know how beneficial these kinds of outdoor sports are for both physical and mental health,’ said Steve.
‘We are looking for someone with a minimum Level 2 qualification in a relevant discipline plus the RLSS Beach Lifeguard qualification or equivalent.
‘This role will also be about delivering training and providing support to other teachers, coaches and volunteers to ensure that the delivery of adventure sports is safe and follows appropriate risk management practices.’
A copy of the full job description is available on the Sports Commission’s website.
Closing date for applications is Wednesday 5th January.
