Mental health charity benefits from 100 mile ride

More than £1,000 was raised for Mind by a brother and sister taking part in RideLondon.

David and Laurence Becker set off early on Sunday 29 May alongside 25,000 other cyclists to take on the 100-mile course.

‘It was great to take in the London sights before continuing our cycle through the Essex countryside. We finally finished on the iconic Tower Bridge,’ said David, a Partner in Audit and Assurance at Deloitte.

‘The ride was great fun with a wonderful atmosphere amongst the riders. Although it was challenging, we were pleased to have taken our training seriously over the last few weeks, which ensured we could really enjoy the whole experience.

‘I’m proud to say that we raised £1,062 for Mind. The challenges of lockdown have tested us in a number of ways and Mind has provided invaluable support to many people throughout, we wanted to do our bit to give back.’

RideLondon is a collection of cycling events featuring 100,000 riders of all ages and abilities. The organisation hosts mass participation challenges, along with road races contested by professional riders.

Mind is a nationwide charity that supports those with mental health conditions. It provides information and advocacy to those experiencing a mental health issue, while also working hard to improve support services.

‘I am a keen runner and have taken part in many charity races, however, after suffering a stress fracture last year, I began cycling more instead,’ said David. You can donate to David and Laurence’s JustGiving page.
