Live action from Footes Lane as track season enters its final stages
ATHLETES return to Footes Lane for one of the last chances to compete on the track this year.
Tomorrow [Thursday 2 Sept] night’s meeting will again be livestreamed on Activegsy.com.
The island’s leading male and female sprinters will be among those in action.
Josh Duke will compete in the 200m and 100m, with his closest competitor likely to be fellow U20 Ben Stevens, back on the track for the first time since May.
Having returned from running 11.94s in the 100m in Dagenham, Abi Galpin will also line-up in both those races.
A special 1500m is being staged after a request from Alex Rowe and Will Bodkin to go head-to-head in an attempt to break the 4min barrier. Bodkin led Rowe home in the recent west coast 5k.
Island Games champion Rhiannon Dowinton again aims to beat the 15s barrier over 100m hurdles. She will be pushed along by her younger training partner Vicky Hancock, who will debut over the distance.
All the age-groups will be well represented.
Among them are U15s Edie Dorrian and Isabelle Lowe going in the sprints.
Dorrian has the edge over 100m so far this season and Lowe over 200m.
The junior female hurdles are also well subscribed with the likes of Darcey Hodgson hoping to post fast age-group times.
At U13 level there are some exciting match ups, not least the boys 100m.
Just two more events remain of the track and field season after Thursday.
On Sunday a Field Fest takes place from 12pm. It will feature high jump, triple jump, discus and hammer.
Then the season comes to a close on Sunday 12 September at a meeting which begins at 11am.
On the track there will be 100m, 200m, 400m, 1500m and 300/400m hurdle events.
Out in the field there is the long jump, shot, discus and javelin.
